Believing we are in competition with the studio owner down the street kills our mojo. And by mojo, I mean our soul, teaching, and bank account.
Believing we have to hoard all the students in our community is an apology for not specializing.
Being convinced that another teacher is better or worse than us is a red-hot flare that we think we still teach only voice in our voice lessons.
Believing in Competition comes from a Place of Scarcity.
“There are a limited number of students and I need my piece of the student pie”
is how we excuse ourselves from the labor of figuring out just who the heck we are.
Do you need students?
Stop trying to model your studio after some cut and paste plan and take the time to figure out who you are and what you bring to the lesson experience.
Instead of learning more pedagogy, learn more about yourself. CliftonStrengths is a great place to do that.
Instead of learning more ways to use Facebook ads, learn more about your core values and your passions.
Instead of operating from fear that there won’t be enough, operate from the assumption that there is enough… all you have to do is find it.
The real work is in choosing to find it.
You know how to teach voice. So does everyone else.
But no one can teach voice as you do. And therefore?
You have no competition.
All my BeastyBoss Love,
But I don’t know how to find it, Michelle! I know. That is why I teach it in the How to Run Your Studio Without Hating Your Boss Accelerator course.
I think you are fundamentally right . I don’t worry anymore about other people or the bank balance . It’s always the same whether I do or don’t !
Would you like to change that? Have it change (the bank account?) Tell me more about this!
