Don’t Be Nervous About the Trigeminal Nerve with Sheila Townsend

Ever had a motor issue with a voice student that left you stumped? You’ve ticked all the usual boxes but nothing seems to work? Your student is frustrated. You’re starting to consider a career as a pastry chef. What do you do?

My dear SECO colleagues, please put down the application for Le Cordon Bleu and allow me to share with you the “magic” that is the trigeminal nerve.

The biggest of the cranial nerves, it is responsible for perceiving sensation in the face as well as the motor function of the jaw. The trigeminal nerve is the “placement nerve.” Crucial for healthy, happy singing!

In my presentation, I’ll unpack the basics of this incredible nerve and some simple, practical steps to address common issues seen in the voice studio. I will also introduce some inexpensive tools that often produce immediate improvement in singers of all ages and abilities.
